Every pupil at The Brunel Academy has, or will be in the process of getting an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).
Each learner at the academy is supported according to their individual needs.
As part of the induction process for each learner, staff from the Academy work closely with the Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) from their referring school to assess the level of support they have been receiving and to identify appropriate support strategies. Continued support from referring schools is expected for dual rolled students.
Special educational needs as according to the 2014 Special Educational Needs and Disability Code of Practice are met through:
Teaching assistants are used to support quality first teaching as well as deliver some of the interventions.
If your child or young person has an Education, Health and Care (EHC) Plan, the Local Authority (LA) must review the EHC plan at least once a year based on evidence received. For more information about what this means, please read the Torbay Council Annual Review Meeting information document.
Find out more about these reviews via the Guidance for Parents and Carers pack published by Devon County Council.
